Roasted Swiss Water Decaf Colombia Excelso 100% Arabica coffee beans

Swiss Water – this decaffeination process, also known as the “Swiss method”, is complex and expensive. It reduces the caffeine content to 0.01%.

Colombia ranks first in the world for the production of washed (wet-processed) Arabica beans and second only to Brazil for Arabica production overall. To set its coffee apart from that of other producing countries, Colombia promotes the Colombian coffee brand at national level. Every bag of beans exported from the country bears the Cafe de Colombia logo and name. Here coffee grows on steep slopes, so it is picked only by hand, unlike in neighbouring Brazil, where coffee is often harvested mechanically. The country's climate is humid and temperatures at high altitude are low. For this reason, the beans are usually wet-processed.
The farms lie at 1,200–2,200 m above sea level, where there is a big difference between day and night temperatures. On cold nights, the coffee cherries build up high levels of sugars and acids. Colombian coffee is considered one of the best-balanced coffees in the world.

Depending on how flawless the quality and size of the beans are, Colombian coffee is graded as Supremo or Excelso. Supremo has the largest beans in Colombia (screen 17–20). Smaller beans (screen 16 and below) are labelled Excelso.
